AAHOA President & CEO Cecil P. Staton issued the next assertion in response to the homicide of Elkton, Md. lodge proprietor Ushaben Patel and the wounding of her husband Dilipbhai Patel:
“America’s lodge house owners are shocked and outraged by this mindless act of violence in opposition to two small enterprise house owners doing their jobs. We provide our deepest sympathies to Dilipbhai Patel and his household, and our neighborhood is mourning with them right now. Assaults in opposition to hoteliers proceed to extend, and that is yet one more horrendous episode of violence in opposition to Asian People that’s plaguing our society. It should cease now. All through the COVID-19 pandemic, hoteliers have labored to ease the tensions of on a regular basis life for his or her visitors. The previous 12 months positioned undue anxiousness, ache, and uncertainty on our nation, but hoteliers proceed to welcome visitors into their accommodations and their communities. This crime compounds the anxieties lodge house owners face. Each hotelier is aware of that one thing like this might occur to them at any time. Service to others defines the spirit of hospitality, and that’s what makes a loss equivalent to this so tragic. We’re assured that Maryland authorities will assist the Patel household discover justice.”
